Can You Ever Have Too Many Lures?

What a journey it’s been! Over the past year, the stickbait design has undergone so many iterations, I’ve practically lost count—and every twist and turn has brought something exciting to the table, especially when out on the water.

It all began with a simple idea: embedding the wire mid-print. While this approach had a major advantage—the layer bonding was flawless—it also resulted in an eye size that felt too small to me. Since having an attractive eye on your lures is an essential part of fishing, having the right balance and eye size was crucial. Working with the wire by hand also proved challenging, as I couldn’t consistently bend it to the required tolerance for embedding it to my standard. That’s when I decided to shake things up and move to a two-part model—a game-changing decision for our custom lures!

Why two parts, you ask? Because this opened up a whole new world of possibilities! I could now apply dazzling holographic reflective textures to the body, giving the lure an irresistible flash in the water—perfect for attracting kingfish and other species. This wasn’t just about making it look pretty—it was about performance, ensuring the lure was suitable for various types of fishing, whether from a boat or shore.

Here’s where things got even more interesting. Applying holographic textures required a flat surface, but that flatness could affect how the lure swims when being retrieved or during casting. I wasn’t about to let that compromise my design, so I introduced an innovative solution—gills, or jets, inspired by aerodynamic techniques used in aircraft! These jets are strategically angled outward to stabilize the lure as it glides through the water, ensuring smooth, controlled movement while imitating live bait that fishing gear often struggles to replicate.

And there’s more! The angled jets not only stabilize but also create a subtle stream of bubbles and apply a downward force on the nose, helping the lure stay just below the surface—exactly where predatory fish like kingfish strike. The result? A lifelike, tantalizing action that fish can’t resist, especially when paired with a quality fishing rod.

This evolution of the stickbait design has been nothing short of thrilling, blending creativity with engineering precision. Whether you’re casting off a boat or targeting kingfish from the rocks, this custom lure performs exceptionally well. I’ve already tested the stickbait, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to see the design come to life. And you can bet there’ll be even more innovations to come—because when it comes to fishing, the adventure never truly ends!
